What Should You Do After a Hailstorm?

After hailstorm, you must make sure that everyone in your household is safe. When weather events like this occur, you must contact your roofer for an inspection. Many make a mistake of not getting their homes checked because there’s no visible sign of damage only to experience leaks a few months later.

Here are things you should do after a hailstorm.

Things to Do After a Hailstorm

Take note of the date and exact time of the storm as well as when you think hail damage in your home occurred. Take photos of your home and around your property after the storm. Make sure to pay attention to damaged areas. Take as many pictures as you can.

Before your roofing contractor arrives, you can check the condition of your roof from the ground using binoculars. Look for obvious signs of damage, such as missing or torn shingles. Get a tape measure, lay it beside hailstones on the ground, and then take photos. It’s also a good idea to document any damage to your air conditioners because hailstones can dent them.

You Don’t Need a Leaking Roof

It’s still possible to file a claim on a damaged roof that’s not leaking. You don’t have to wait for a leak to occur before filing a claim. In fact, roof hail damage claims don’t usually involve leaking roofs. However, if you have a leaking roof, make sure to protect your home. Place a tarp over the affected area to prevent water damage from spreading. You should also check your siding, windows and air conditioners for signs of hail damage.
