Navigating the Insurance Claims Process After a Storm

Storms can be very unpredictable, and you’ll never know when you’ll have to deal with storm damage to your roof. That’s why you need to be prepared. You need to know how to deal with a roofing insurance claim.

What to Do After the Storm

It’s important to have an accurate account and record of all the damage to your property after a storm. Resist the temptation to clean everything up. Instead, take photos or video of all your debris or belongings. Then, make a list of all the damage and lost items. Next, take steps to avoid further damage to your home.

Contacting Your Insurance Company

Contact your insurance company as soon as possible. The insurance company can help you figure out what types of damage are covered. You will need to provide your insurance company with your insurance information, contact information and documentation about your damaged and lost property.

Working With the Claims Adjuster

After you submit your report to your insurance company, it will send a claims adjuster to assess the damage to your home. Once the adjuster has completed the assessment, then the pro will provide documentation to your insurance company to figure out your claims settlement. Keep in mind that you may be paid with more than once check.
