7 Spring Residential Roofing Maintenance Tips

With winter weather ceasing, you can take advantage of next season’s pleasant outdoor conditions to check your roof’s condition. It may have gone through a lot over the past few months, which is why performing the necessary maintenance makes sense to restore its overall appearance and bring your home’s curb appeal to acceptable levels once again. Here are some tips from Quality Assurance Roofing to help you get your roofing in prime condition.

1. Inspect the Roof for Damage

Inspect your roof for cracked, warped or buckled shingles. Have them repaired as soon as possible to ensure your home’s protection against the elements. Don’t forget the other roof components, especially the flashing and vents. Check if they are still intact or have suffered damage over the last few months.

2. Clear Your Gutters and Downspouts

Be sure to include your gutters and downspouts in your spring roof maintenance. Clean gutters are essential to ensuring your home exteriors and interiors remain dry and damage-free. Clogs cause water runoff to overflow and spill on your yard and near your home’s foundations, causing damage.

3. Check for Any Loose or Missing Shingles

If you find any loose or missing shingles, have them replaced this spring. Delaying this further exposes your roof to further damage, necessitating frequent but costly repairs.

4. Observe Any Leaks

A notable sign of a roof leak is the appearance of water spots or stains on your ceiling. You can also get up the attic and check for dampness in the insulation as this is also a sign of a potential roof leak. Have your local roofing company patch them right away.

5. Clear Moss and Algae Growth

Look for patches of moss or algae growth spreading across the roof surface. Local roofers can get rid of them when they perform roof maintenance.

6. Prevent Animal Infestation

Small animals, including birds, rodents and insects, like to take shelter either on the roof or inside the attic. Take preventative measures like repairing roof damage quickly and sealing gaps. You can also trim back tree branches or install special deterrents to keep animals from reaching your roof.
