Tips for Communicating With Your Insurance Adjuster

The process of filing an insurance claim after a hurricane or natural disaster for your damaged roofing can often be more complicated than expected. It’s best to be prepared if any problems arise. So, to help you communicate well with your insurance adjuster, here are a few helpful tips to make your experience with your insurance claims company smoother.

  1. Document Your Phone Conversations

First, you have to make sure that your phone conversations are properly documented. Documentation is very important. Take note of the date and time of your calls, and what were your conversation topics. Write down a summary of your conversation, and send it through email to your insurance adjuster. The adjuster can correct your summary or confirm if the record is right. This way, when a dispute happens, you can go back to your recorded conversations and check for the details.

  1. Stay Professional

It’s best to stay calm, collected and professional at all times. Even if getting a claim approved after a devastating accident is frustrating, keeping your cool can help you resolve a dispute if it arises. Keep being persistent and firm about your claim as the insurance company can often require some forms. Remember that your roof repair is on the line so it’s better to get your claim approved as soon as possible.

  1. Get Information to the Adjuster in a Timely Fashion

Do not delay any requirements or documents that your insurance adjuster is requesting. It also helps to keep a copy of every document and information that you give the company. You should also send everything via certified mail, return receipt requested. This way, your insurance company will know when the information was received.

  1. Speak to an Attorney

If you need help, do not hesitate to get an attorney. Attorneys are knowledgeable about the claims process, which allows them to represent clients effectively. In the event your insurer has engaged in improper conduct, your lawyer can document that conduct and use it for leverage for compensation.
